The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Joseph C. Boyson

Joseph C. Boyson, 69, of Elyria died Sunday, August 26, 2007, at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born January 5, 1938 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident.

Mr. Boyson was owner-operator of the American Shoe Repair located in downtown Elyria for many years. It was well-known that you could enter the shop and engage in lively conversation while Joe repaired shoes.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, was a 1956 Elyria Catholic High School graduate, and enjoyed target shooting, fly fishing and working around the house.

Survivors include his daughters, Juliane McDonough of Scranton, Pa., and Diane Boyson of Elyria; son, Douglas Boyson of Corpus Christi, Texas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his father, John "Brownie" Boyson of Elyria.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (nee Strohsack) in 2005; mother, Julia Boyson in 1988; and a brother, John Boyson.

Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road at state Route 57, Elyria. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
