The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Ruth M. Groboske

Ruth M. Groboske (nee Dougherty), 83, of Elyria died Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a long illness.

She was born May 20, 1924, in Cleveland and lived in Grafton for most of her life before moving to Elyria 10 years ago.

Mrs. Groboske worked in the purchasing department at the former General Industries in Elyria.

She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Mrs. Groboske was a 1942 Elyria High School graduate.

She was an avid reader and excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing cards, board games, and traveling. She also really enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John Groboske; daughters, Mary R. Haag of Baltimore, Md., Frances J. Pijor of Dana Pointe, Calif., and Denise M. Leidlein of New Philadelphia; sons, Michael A. of Lorain, and Mark E. of Elk Grove, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sueann Groboske; a grandson, Adam Haag; a brother, Donald Dougherty; and her parents, Earl and Mary (nee Schmitz) Dougherty.

Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road at state Route 57, Elyria. Services will be 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by 10 a.m. Mass at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Grafton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ireland Cancer Center, 41201 Schadden Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or for memorial masses for Mrs. Groboske at St. Vincent DePaul Church.
