The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Cyrus Lee Mason, Jr., 74, a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at his home following a four-month illness.
He was born June 29, 1933 in Benton Co., Mo.. He was raised in Memphis. He moved to Vermilion in 1964 and has been a resident of Amherst Township for the last 34 years.
Cyrus served in the Army. He was employed at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant for 30 years before retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed fishing, working with his hands, woodworking, and working on cars.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary Ellen Mason (nee Hall); sons, Wesley Mason of Chadum, and Steven Mason of Amherst; daughter, Barbara Lingerfelter of Elyria; stepson, Tony Gist of Ariz.; stepdaughter, Beverly Dennis of Sacramento, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Buddy and Jimmy Mason, both of Memphis; and his sister, Marlene Radach of Mo.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Mason in 2006; and by his parents, Cyrus Lee and Annie Mae Mason (nee Kimery).
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, where funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday.
