Witnesses: Man on bike fired shots in ride-by

ELYRIA — Foster Avenue residents said they witnessed a ride-by shooting Wednesday afternoon where a man on a bicycle fired two gunshots at a man who was walking in the area. Police searched the area immediately after the shooting and found no spent shell casings or other evidence of a shooting, and both the suspect and the man who was the likely target were nowhere to be found.

Three women who live on the street told police said they heard at least two gunshots Wednesday afternoon.

Two of the women said they saw the likely shooter — a black male with a graying beard — riding a red or maroon 10-speed bicycle eastbound on Foster Avenue just minutes after the shooting. The women also said the man was wearing gloves and was holding a handgun as he pedaled the bike away from the scene.

Another woman said she saw a man she suspected was the target — a black man about 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, wearing a gray shirt and jeans — run around her house and then back into the street.

“It was a drive-by shooting, but on a bicycle, I guess,” the woman said.
