The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Jon J. Sears, 58, of Elyria, died Saturday at EMH Regional Medical Center following a long illness. He was born January 15, 1949 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident.
Mr. Sears worked as a machinist at the former York International in Elyria for 22 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of Lake Avenue United Church of Christ in Elyria, served in the Army during the Viet Nam era, was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award, was a 1966 Elyria High School graduate, a member of the Elyria Elks Lodge 465, was a past president of the United Steelworkers local 6985, was past sports director of District One of the Steelworkers and was past president of the Lorain County AFL-CIO.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Pamela (nee: Harold); daughter, Kara Sears of Elyria; sons, Matthew Sears, of North Ridgeville and Jason Sears, of Elyria; six grandchildren; sisters, Diane Bauer of Berlin Heights, Sharon Yearley of Grafton, Mary Kay McCallum and Pat Roberts, both of NC; brothers, George, Tom, Larry, Mike, and Jeff Sears, all of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marjorie Sears; sister, Jo Ann Gilliam; and a brother, Mark Sears.
Friends may call Tuesday 5 to 8 P.M. at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Rd. at State Rt. 57, Elyria. Services will be Wednesday at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Gross will officiate. VFW Post 1079, from Elyria, are going to conduct full military honors at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lake Avenue United Church of Christ, 310 Lowell St., Elyria, or to the American Heart Association, 1689 East 115th St., Cleveland, OH 44106-3988.
