CARLISLE TWP. — Heat from a Monday afternoon garage fire may have actually aided in putting the fire out.
Flames became so hot in the garage, which was connected to a home in the 39000 block of Ester Drive, they melted a bracket that was holding a household fire extinguisher. The extinguisher fell several feet before exploding on the ground and spreading its chemicals over much of the fire and snuffing it out.
When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, about noon, they only had to douse a few errant flames in the garage to extinguish the fire.
A couple who was home at the time was notified of the fire by a neighbor who called 911. No one was injured, and the garage, which did not have anything of value in it, was salvageable. A minivan owned by the homeowners that was parked in the driveway did sustain heat damage.
Carlisle Township firefighters still are investigating the cause of the fire.
