The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Robert J. “Bob” Schaffer

Robert J. “Bob” Schaffer, 63, of Wellington, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at EMH Regional Healthcare Center in Elyria after a sudden illness. He was born in Norwalk, the son of the late Florian and Mildred (Braden) Schaffer.

Bob was employed as the grounds keeper for the Lorain County Fairgrounds for the last 30 years. He enjoyed pony pulling and was a member of the North Central Ohio Pony Pullers Association for many years. His love later became pulling draft horses, during which time he was a member of the Buckeye Horse Pullers Association. Bob’s favorite pastime was spending time with all of his grandchildren and the terrific group of friends he developed over the years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia (Wolfe) Schaffer, whom he had been married to for 40 years. He is also survived by his children, Brenda (Harry “Joe”) Wetherbee of Wellington, Mike (Vickie) Schaffer of Spencer, Susie (Kraig) Reber of Wellington; 13 grandchildren, Justin Wetherbee, JD Schaffer, Tricia Wetherbee, Amber Wetherbee, Megan Novosielski, Chad Reber, Brad Reber, Erin Eberhardt, Eric Eberhardt, Kelly Eberhardt, Kurt Eberhardt, Mikayla Schaffer, and Rebecca Schaffer. Other survivors include his brothers and sisters, Vera (Resor) Slagle, Frank Resor, Martha Resor, Martin Resor, Doug Resor, Roy Resor, Betty (Resor) Penson, and Tom Resor; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Joseph Schaffer.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 P.M on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. Friends may also call on Thursday, September 13, 2007 from 9 A.M. until the time of Service at 11 A.M. at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in the Fair Hall. Burial will take place in North Fairfield Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at: www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
