The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Rosie D. Johnson, 74, of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the Community Health Partners Hospital of Lorain, following a short illness.
She was born in Jefferson, AL, coming to Elyria, 55 years ago from Chicago, IL. She was educated in the Marengo County School System and was a graduate of John Essex High School in Marengo County, AL.
She was employed as an assembler for the General Motors Plant in Elyria, retiring in 1988 after 15 years of service. She also worked in the Elyria Methodist Home and also worked for the Elyria Maintenance Corporation, and also as a domestic worker.
She was a member of Community A.M.E. Church of Cleveland, and a former member of Jones Chapel A.M.E. Church of Elyria. While a member of Community A.M.E. Church, she served on the steward board and as a choir member, and she also served faithfully at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church of Rossford, where she served as an officer of the church, and also at Jones Chapel A.M.E. where she served as a faithful member.
She enjoyed cooking, reading her Bible and spending time with her family and great-grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter, Alice (Rev. Arnett) Thornton of Elyria; grandson; two great-grandsons; sisters, Lillie Kirk of Oberlin, Creola Johnson of Elyria, Rosa (Rozelle) Davis of Cleveland, Gloria Zollicoffer of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers, James (Ardella) Johnson of Elyria, Edward Congress of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sr. and Alice Johnson; brothers, Julius Johnson, Ulysess Johnson and Eddie Johnson.
Friends may call Friday from 11 A.M. until time of Service at Noon in the True Vine Primitive Baptist Church, 737 W. 18th Street, Elyria, where the Rev. Arnett Thornton and Elder James R. Furcron Jr., Pastor of True Vine P.B.C. will officiate. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery Elyria, Ohio. Online condolences can be sent to: carterfuneralhome@yahoo.com.
