The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Sandra J. Haas (nee Rieth), 67, of North Ridgeville, passed away at home on Sunday, September 9, 2007 following a brief illness. She was born in Elyria on March 3, 1940. She resided in North Ridgeville for many years and prior to that she lived in Avon.
She was a 1958 graduate of Avon High School. Mrs. Haas was employed as a head cashier by Rini-Rego Grocery Stores and worked in Avon and Westlake. She retired in 1995 after 20 years with the company. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in North Ridgeville, the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #7035 in Avon, and Local 880 (United Food Workers Union). She enjoyed traveling, gardening and gambling, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joseph E. Haas; son, Joseph M. Haas of York, PA; daughter, Maria Dinner of Erie, PA; brother, Kenneth Rieth of Elyria; sister, Carolyn Johnson of Avon; and six grandchildren, Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Haas and Michael, Nicholas, Hope and Faith Dinner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Sophie (nee Sallay) Rieth; and sister-in-law, Judith Haas.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday September 12, 2007 and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. A Prayer Service will be Friday, September 14, 2007 at 9:15 A.M. at the funeral home followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. The Rev. Stephen Kaminski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
