Joseph G. Serazin

Joseph G. Serazin, 85, of Elyria, died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 peacefully in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born March 13, 1922 in Lorain. He was a Lorain resident for 41 years before moving to Elyria in 1963.

He graduated from Lorain High School in 1940. He Attended Bowling Green University and Wooster College.

Mr. Serazin retired in 1987 as a Behr Operator in the paint department of the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant. He worked there for 29 years in varying capacities.

During World War II Mr. Serazin was a Navy Aviator. He Flew PBY Catalina’s in the South Pacific, including Saipan. He earned the rank of Lieutenant. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Medal and others.

He was an active member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church, Lorain. He was a member of the Church Council and the Holy Name Society. He had other memberships in the United Auto Workers 425, Lorain, Lorain Slovenian Club, K. S. K. Lodge 101, Lorain, S. D. Z. Buckeye Lodge and the American Fraternal Union.

He bowled on leagues at the Saxon Club. He enjoyed his family, gardening, camping and working on cars.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Agnes (nee Celik) Serazin; dear father of Christopher Serazin of Avon Lake, Sharon Whisler of Garland, TX, and Judy Smith of Kipton; grandfather to five.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Serazin; parents, Joseph and Rose (nee Vovk) Serazin; sister, Pauline Serazin; and a granddaughter, Megan Smith.

Visitation will be private. A Funeral Mass will be 10 A.M. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Saints Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church, East 31st St. and Globe Ave., South Lorain. The Rev. Father Paul Krajnik, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
