Florence Z. Jones (nee Brennan), 86, a lifelong resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a brief illness.
She was born January 20, 1921, in Amherst, where she was raised and graduated from the former Central High School class of 1939.
Florence was employed at Amherst Hospital in housekeeping for 14 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and was active in the Amherst Golden Agers.
Survivors include her son, Robert Jones of Vermilion; her daughter, Beatrice Vogel of Amherst; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, Morris E. Jones on December 30, 1965; brother, Roy David Brennan; sister, Agnes Rainey; parents, David Guy and Mary Gertrude Brennan (nee Wenzel).
Friends may call Thursday, September 20, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Friday, September 21, 2007, at noon at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. The Rev. Fr. James F. Mazanec, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
