Shooter, 85, denied early release

ELYRIA — Paul Hashman will remain in a state prison, a county judge has decided.

Common Pleas Judge Christopher Rothgery has denied a request from the 85-year-old convict for early release from the seven-year prison sentence he is serving for shooting his neighbor, Darrell Oskins, in January 2004.

The shooting was the culmination of a years-long feud between the Woodland Avenue neighbors that began after Oskins built a garage that blocked Hashman’s view. During a trial last year, Hashman said he shot Oskins after his neighbor charged him with a snowblower.

But prosecutors said Hashman emptied a 9-shot, .22-caliber revolver into Oskins and hit him with the gun.
