James Lanier Dickerson, Jr., 55, of Elyria, died unexpectedly Friday, September 21, 2007, at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria.
Mr. Dickerson was born March 18, 1952, in Birmingham, Ala. He had lived in the Lorain County area since 1964. He was a member of Greater St. Matthew A.M.E. Church of Lorain where he served as a steward, church trustee, and usher.
He worked 34 years as a process engineer at the Polyone Corporation, formerly BF Goodrich, in Avon Lake. He was an avid sports fan, coached youth baseball and basketball for the Elyria Park and Recreation Department, and loved to golf.
He was a veteran of the Air Force.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 30 years, Marsha Dione Dickerson, (nee Whitehead), of Elyria; sons, James Lanier Dickerson, III of North Ridgeville, and JaKanda Dickerson of Elyria; father, James Lanier Dickerson, Sr. of New Bern, N.C.; sisters, Cathy Dickerson of Elyria; brother, Van Dickerson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Dickerson, (nee Slaughter); and brother, Douglas Dickerson. Funeral services will be noon Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at Greater St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, 1909 W. 24th St., Lorain, where Rev. Dr. John F. Newby, Jr. is pastor. The Rev. Charlotte W. Evans, pastor of Warren A.M.E. Church in Fremont, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
