The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Herbert L. Metzger, 87, Valley City, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 24, 2007. Born in Valley City, on January 13, 1920 to Louis and Jessie Metzger. He was a lifelong resident of Valley City.
Herb retired as a machine operator with General Motors, Brook Park, after 32 years of service.
He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Valley City.
After retiring, Herb and his late wife Carol enjoyed traveling, especially to Nashville, TN and Branson, MO.
He loved to be outdoors and he took pride in raising his vegetable gardens.
He is survived by his children, William (Ann) of Valley City, Nancie (Robert) Baker of Columbus, Richard (Wendy) of Valley City, and Carla (Butch) Kirk of Sunbury; grandchildren, Jeremy, Dustin, Jordan, Samantha, Noah and Dakota; sister, Margaret Meyers of Medina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol (November 2006); and a brother, Walter Metzger.
Friends may call Thursday, September 27, 2007, 6 to 9 P.M. at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Rd., Valley City.
The Funeral Service will be Friday, September 28, 2007, 10 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, 2233 Abbeyville Rd., Valley City. Rev. Michael Koch officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Valley City. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
