Ethel Elizabeth Henighan-Llewellyn (nee Nemeth), 92, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain following a three month illness. She was born April 9, 1915 in South Lorain, where she was raised and was a graduate of Lorain High with the class of 1934. She had made her home in Amherst since 1963.
Ethel was a licensed cosmetologist and was self-employed as a beautician for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Ethel loved golfing and was a member of the Oberlin Golf Club, the Senior Citizens of Amherst, and the Catholic Golden Agers. Ethel loved dancing and was a charter member of the Cosmopolitan Dance Club.
Survivors include her husband of 13 years, Harold "Hap" Llewellyn; sons, Robert John Henighan of Medina, Thomas Leo Henighan of Beaver Creek; stepson, Fred Llewellyn of Elyria; stepdaughters, Sarah Southwold of Wageningen, Netherlands, Christie Lee of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and four step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 52 years, John J. Henighan on April 10, 1992; brothers, Stephen Nemeth, Frank Nemeth; and her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Nemeth (nee Danyi).
Friends may call Sunday, September 30, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Monday, October 1, 2007 at 9:30 A.M. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 A.M. from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
