Lee W. Heighberger, 81, of North Ridgeville, died Thursday, September 27, 2007 following a long illness. Mr. Heighberger was born in Elyria on July 22, 1926 and made his home in Elyria for most of his life, moving to North Ridgeville five years ago.
Mr. Heighberger was employed by Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria as a machinist for 32 years, retiring in 1982. After retirement, he owned and operated Friday’s on Cleveland Street for 20 years. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II.
He attended St. Jude Catholic Church, was a life member of the VFW Post 1079, and was a Little League North Baseball Coach for many years. He had a love for all children and enjoyed golf, bowling and all youth sports.
He is survived by his wife, Carmel M. (Nee Carroll), to whom he had been married for 35 years; daughters, Sue (Mike) Barney of CA, Carol (Mike) Olenek of Elyria, and Marcie (Bill) Klausner of Lakewood; sons, Al Heighberger of Elyria and Nigel Carroll of Ireland; four grandchildren, Monica (Lenny) Melnik of Lakewood, Brett (Leslie) Heighberger, Matt (Jeanette) Heighberger, and Kyle Heighberger, all of Elyria; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kathryn, Alex, Gavin and Liam; and sister, Adeen Gerbrand of Stone Mountain, GA.
He was preceded in death by brother, Chuck Tripphan; three sisters, Arlene Hamilton, Arminda Hamilton, and Marcelene Booth.
Friends will be received Saturday, September 29, 2007 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria and Monday, October 1, 2007 at 12:30 P.M. until the time of Funeral Services at 1:30 P.M. in the funeral home with the Reverend George Lanning, nephew of the deceased, officiating.
Burial with full Military Honors provided by the VFW Post 1079, will be at Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
