The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

John B. "Brownie" Boyson, 97, of Elyria died Thursday at Center Ridge Health Campus in North Ridgeville following a brief illness. He was born February 5, 1910 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident.
Mr. Boyson was the former owner of the American Shoe Repair Shop in Elyria for 51 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, the Elyria Knights of Columbus Council 774, Elyria Elks Lodge 465, and the Elyria United Polish Club. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and playing golf, having shot three hole-in-ones in his lifetime.
Survivors include four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Joseph Boyson of Port Charlotte, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia (nee: Kovacs) in 1990; sons, John in 1996, and Joseph on August 26, 2007; grandson, Brian Boyson; and brothers, Michael, Frank, and Lucas Boyson.
Friends may call Monday, 4 to 7 P.M. at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Rd. at State Rt. 57, Elyria. Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home followed by a 10A.M. Mass at St. Mary Church. The Rev. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. Memorial contributions can be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, 118 Kipling St., Elyria, OH 44035.
