Paul L. Schmittle, 77, of Elyria, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, September 29, 2007.
He was born in Wilgus, Pa., and lived in Elyria for most of his life.
Paul was enlisted in the Army in May 1949, serving until June 1955. He retired from Arco’s Gas Station, where he was a mechanic.
He enjoyed working on cars.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Elyria.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia J. Schmittle of Parma, Samantha Jean Schmittle of Arizona; son, Michael Paul D. Schmittle of Elyria; stepchildren, Sandra Hatfield of Elyria and Larry Houston of Amherst; two grandchildren, Amanda and Cecil; brother, Joe Schmittle of Avon; sisters, Edwinna Miller, Elosie Lemon, and Royetta Lux.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Schmittle (nee Burns) and second wife, Geneva Ann Schmittle (nee Thurman-Houston); parents, Walter Schmittle and Sarah Smith; son, Charles Allen Schmittle; sisters, Mary Schmittle and Ruth Hawkford; brothers, Jerry Schmittle, Charles Schmittle, and Woody Schmittle.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second St., Elyria. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at noon Thursday, October 4, 2007. The Reverend Roger Loomis, pastor of The Cross Community Church (formerly The First Assembly of God) will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Garden in Avon.
