Arthur K. Dawson, 74, of Grafton, died Monday, October 1, 2007 at the New Life Center of St. Joseph following a 10 year battle with prostate cancer. He was born July 14, 1933 in Elyria, and lived all his life in Lorain County.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. Mr. Dawson owned and operated Keystone Hardware in LaGrange for 18 years, and Art’s Water Service that installed and serviced residential and farm water systems.
He was a member of the LaGrange Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years, a member of LaGrange United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Post #12.
He enjoyed gardening, loved nature, feeding the birds and squirrels, and watching football and baseball games.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Loretta L. (nee Lipstraw); sons, David A. Dawson of North Ridgeville, and Brian D. Dawson of Elyria; nephews, Wayne Dawson of Flint, MI, John Scott Dawson of Dublin; and niece, Marcia Wall of Dublin.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Marie Dawson in 1986; his parents, Cyrus B. Dawson and Stella Thorpe Dawson; brother, John Dawson; and sister, Mary Agnes Dawson.
Friends may call 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home at Chestnut Ridge Rd. and State Rt. 57, Elyria where Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M. Friday, October 5, 2007. Pastor Ralph Krall of LaGrange United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be private at the River Road Cemetery, LaGrange.
