Phillip L. Puffer, 82, of Elyria died suddenly Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at his home. He was born September 7, 1925 in Conneaut, OH.

Mr. Puffer was a former manager of both J.C. Penny and Robrt Hall Clothing Stores. He and his first wife, Bernadine started Puffer’s Floral Shoppe in 1968. Mr. Puffer was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was a combat engineer and served in the European theater during WW II.

He attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elyria where he was a past board member.

Mr. Puffer was also a member of the American Legion Post 12 for 37 years, V.F.W Post 1079, Association of Rhine et Danube U.S XXI Corps Section, the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, the Lorain County Scottish Rite Society (Valley of Cleveland), a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 98, the Al Koran Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Cleveland, El Rey Grotto, Elyria Moose Lodge #778, Spring Valley Country Club, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter.

Mr. Puffer was past President of the Lorain County Florist Association.

Survivors include his wife, Consuelo, (nee Fernandez); daughters, Yvonne Hutchson, and Sybil Swanson, both of Elyria; stepdaughter, Karen Hull of Elyria; stepson, Jim Everhart of Elyria; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank of Massillon, and George of Seven Lakes, NC.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernadine in 1995; and parents, Clyde and Thelma (nee Sanders) Puffer.

Friends may call Thursday, October 4, 2007, from 3 to 8 P.M. at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road at State Route 57, Elyria and Friday, October 5, 2007, from 10 A.M. until the time of Services at 11 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, 312 3rd. St., Elyria. The Rev. Lowell Scheufler will officiate. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
