Evelyn F. Barr

Evelyn F. Barr (nee Fraaza), 87, died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point, IN from injuries received from a fall. Evelyn, daughter of Frank and Lena Fraaza, was born January 6, 1920 in a log cabin in Ringle, WI. She and her twin, Dorothy, were the third and fourth children of a family of eight.
Evelyn married Robert H. Barr on November 28, 1947 in the Forestville Christian Reformed Church in Ringle, WI. For the past 30 years, Elyria has been home for her and her husband.
Evelyn attended grade school in Ringle, WI and after receiving her GED from Fair Oaks CA High School, she attended classes in the local community college as well as at LCCC. She was a talented artist and although she did not start to paint until late in life, her work was entered in art shows both locally and in Chicago.
Travel was another of her loves. In the early years of marriage, the work related travel required of her husband, resulted in several cross-country trips. She has visited all 50 U.S. States, as well as over 30 foreign countries.
Evelyn was active in her local church, as well as other Christian activities. A long time member of Abbe Road Baptist Church in Elyria, she was currently a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring, FL. She served as an officer of the local Christian Women’s Club, including the Presidency. She was very involved in the ministry of the Gideons International, where she held various offices in the local camp, as well as serving as a member of the Ohio State Auxiliary Cabinet.
She is survived by husband, Robert; four children, Candace Swanson of Crown Point, IN, Richard Barr of Tracy, CA, Steven Barr of Elyria and Timothy Barr of Rochester Hills, MI. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.
