ELYRIA — Government offices at the county, state and federal levels will be closed today in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. Police, fire and sanitation departments will be working as usual, and school will be in session. However, post offices,

E-Check emission testing stations and banks will be closed, except banks with in-store branches or ATM services.

Lorain County Transit buses will be available on their regular routes and taxi services will be available throughout the area. Most retail and convenience stores will be open.

Most city offices also will be closed, but city workers in Lorain, Avon Lake and Sheffield Lake will be on the job.
