The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Willie James “Snag” Porter, 80, of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord October 8, 2007.
He was born March 1, 1927, in Laverne, Ala., and moved to Elyria in 1948.
He served with the Army in Germany during WWII.
He worked for 40 years as a diesel repairman at United States Steel USX.
He was the part time sealer for the city of Elyria for 20 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Lorain County Sheriff Auxiliary from 1971 to the present and was a member of Operation Open Heart.
Prior to moving to Elyria, he was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Laverne, Ala.
He has been a 50-year member of Second Baptist Church, Elyria and enjoyed singing with the various choirs at the church.
He was an active member of Sidonia Lodge No. 93; member and past patron of Sidonia Chapter No. 69; past Potentate of Al Lalim Temple No. 223; Bezaleel Consistory No.15; Royal Arch No.38; El Hasa No.2; President of Marcell Holding Inc.; and was a Lorain County Democratic Party Committeeman.
He enjoyed family, church, sports, traveling, and his Lodge brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Jean Williams; daughter, Helen (Thomas) Odom of Lorain; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Porter, Beunia Murray and Frances Hooks, all of Elyria; brothers, John (Grace) Porter and William (Jessie) Porter, both of Elyria, and Charles (Juanita) Porter of Montgomery, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Augusta “Gussie” in 1987; a brother, Ernest Porter; and parents, Ennis and Dolly Porter.
Family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2007, at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, where a Masonic service will be 7 p.m. followed by a song service at 8:15 p.m.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Carl P. Small will officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria is in charge of arrangements.
