Brink’s truck collector admits stealing deposits

SHEFFIELD — A Brink’s armored truck employee admitted to stealing nearly $8,000 in deposits from Regal Cinemas Cobblestone Square.

Evelyn Bailey, 24, of Richmond Heights, was picked up by the U.S. Marshals Service after she confessed to stealing $7,900 between July 28 and Sept. 1 from the Sheffield movie theater.

Bailey served as Brink’s lone “messenger” and was in charge of picking up the money from the theater and transporting it to the truck and then to the bank.

Suspicions arose when Regal Cinemas was contacted by its bank and informed that its deposits were short from the amounts it was reporting.

The theater’s manager reviewed videotapes of his employees and confirmed that the missing money had to have been taken en route to the bank.

Sheffield police worked in conjunction with Brink’s own security team who initially interviewed Bailey, and received her confession.

Sheffield police Lt. Ron Trifiletti said Bailey told police in a written statement that she had financial problems and took the money during the period of five Sunday morning pickups.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 8 in Avon Lake Municipal Court.

Bailey is free on bond.
