First Tribe-Red Sox face-off today
BOSTON — Are you ready for the Evil Empire II?
|
AT THE JAKE |
The low-budget Indians dispatched baseball’s highest-priced team — the New York Yankees — in the division series, and now they’ll turn their attention to another money monger in the Boston Red Sox, who rank just behind the Yanks with the majors’ second-largest payroll.
Money aside, the American League Championship Series is a showdown between baseball’s top two teams.
It’s a series that will showcase the league’s best in the starting pitching department in Cleveland’s C.C. Sabathia and Boston’s Josh Beckett, who will tangle tonight in Game 1.
It’s a series that features some of the big leagues most potent offensive weapons in Boston’s Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz and Cleveland’s Victor Martinez and Travis Hafner.
It’s a series that will decide who will play for the world championship — Boston, which would be making its second trip to the World Series in four years, or Cleveland, which would be making its first since 1997.
And it all starts at 7:10 tonight at fabled Fenway Park.
