Prep golf: Kmiecik opens with 79 at state

COLUMBUS — Michael Lamping shot a 77 Friday to help Dublin Jerome grab a 10-stroke lead in the Division I boys state golf tournament.
Aaron Siekmann added a 78 and Paul Grauer shot a 79 for Dublin Jerome, which finished with a team total of 316 at Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course. Cincinnati Moeller was second.
Nick Helser of Lancaster and Tyler Light of Massillon Perry, who are both individual qualifiers, each shot a 75 to tie for the lead in the medalist standings.
Avon resident Kyle Kmiecik led St. Ignatius with a 79 (42-37). The Wildcats are seventh, 27 shots out of the lead.
St. Edward, led by John Burke of Bay Village, is in fifth, 23 shots behind. Burke tied for his team’s low score with an 84 (42-42).
In the girls tournament on OSU’s Gray Course, Erin Misheff and Ariel McNair each shot an 80 to help Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit shoot a team total 323 and build a 7-stroke lead over defending champion West Chester Lakota West.
Lancaster’s Allie White, the defending champ, is in first after a 2-over 72.
Magnificat, made up of Lorain County residents, is in eighth.
Alex Bello of Avon Lake led the Blue Streaks with an 85, while Christine Opsitnick of Avon shot 88, Laurel Friesen of Westlake had an 89, Victoria Bello of Avon Lake shot a 93 and Natalie Butchko of Avon Lake turned in a 95.
