CLEVELAND — The Indians have released their 2008 regular season schedule, one that begins March 31, against the Chicago White Sox at Jacobs Field.
It marks the earliest home start to a season in club history and the first time the Indians have opened the season in front of their hometown fans since 2001.
Cleveland’s playoff opponents from this year, Boston and New York, make their only trips of the season to Jacobs Field early, with the Red Sox arriving for a two-game series on April 14-15, while the Yankees come to town for a four-game set on April 25-28. The Indians will be in Boston for a four-game series (Sept. 22-25) during the final week of the regular season, traveling to New York for a three-game series, May 6-8.
Cleveland’s interleague opponents will come from the National League West Division — San Diego, Colorado, Los Angeles and San Francisco — and of course, intrastate rival, Cincinnati, which hosts the Indians in a three-game series, May 16-18, before coming to Jacobs Field on June 27-29. The Padres (June 13-15) and Giants (June 24-26) visit Jacobs Field, while Cleveland plays the Rockies (June 17-19) and the Dodgers (June 20-22) on the road.
Season tickets are already on sale, and, according to vice president of public relations Bob DiBiasio, 5,200 people have taken advantage of the playoff payoff promotion, purchasing at least a 20-game ticket package at a reduced rate.
Single-game tickets go on sale in early March.
