Men hurt in crash on state Route 82

EATON TWP. — A one-car crash on state Route 82 sent two men to the hospital early Sunday in an accident, and troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol say alcohol was involved.

The men, Brandon A. Simmons, 23, of North Olmsted, and Nicholas A. Kristek, 22, of Columbia Township, were coming from a night of drinking in Strongsville just before the accident happened, the Patrol said. Simmons, who was driving, apparently headed west on Route 82 instead of east and lost control of the 1996 Plymouth Neon he was driving shortly before 3 a.m. just past Durkee Road, the patrol reported.

The vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a culvert, which sent it airborne. The vehicle smashed into a nearby parked car that homeowners had up for sale and flipped several times before coming to rest on its wheels.

Simmons, who was not wearing a seat belt, was able to get out of the car with minimal injuries. Kristek was restrained in the car and removed by Eaton Township firefighters. Both men were taken to EMH Regional Medical Center, treated and released.

Simmons was cited for failure to control. The crash remains under investigation and charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated will likely be filed, according to the patrol.
