Prior to taking a job with the treasurer’s office, Soto worked in payroll at the county auditor’s office in Elyria. It was quite a career leap, because her passion used to be working in surgery.
Immediately after graduating from Southview High School in 1988, she enrolled at Lorain County Community College and received an associate’s degree as a surgical technician. She worked at The Surgery Center on Leavitt Road for six years, but decided she wanted to work more with the public.
Soto likes to get involved in the community and has taught parish school and religion at Sacred Heart Chapel. She recently was asked to work with youths.
Most of her free time has been devoted to the Lorain International Festival, where she is the president of the board of trustees. She has served as a trustee since 1996.
Soto was born and raised in Lorain and was a former International Festival Mexican Princess. She is proud of her heritage. Her mother, Anna, is Puerto Rican, and her father, Frank Amador, is Mexican. She learned the history of her ancestors from her father.
Her great-grandfather was from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and her grandfather was from Bastirop, Texas.
Soto has a husband, Rick, and they have two daughters, Terra and Taylor, both of whom attend Lake Ridge Academy in North Ridgeville.
Soto has also visited Puerto Rico with her husband and plans to return.

Congratulations to the members of the Puerto Rican Home, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in mid-October. Dignitaries presented awards of recognition. William Visalden, a former president, said the Puerto Rican Home invites children and their families to take part in the many activities throughout the year.
