Suspect arrested after bartender hit in brawl

AMHERST TWP. — A bartender said she was punched in the face Saturday morning by a patron at the Old Timbers Bar on Telegraph Road after six men had a brawl, according to a sheriff’s report.

Vandersommen

Andrew Vandersommen, 26, was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, and was taken to the county jail on $2,000 bond.

The bartender, Shaun Ford, 28, said she made last call at 2:03 a.m. and headed to the restroom. When she returned, six men were fighting Vandersommen and pushed him out the door, the report said.

He tried to fight his way back in, punching Ford in the process, according to the report.

Sheriff’s deputies spotted Vandersommen heading to a wooded area behind the bar, but the report said he refused to stop until officers pointed a Taser at him.

Even when they placed him on the ground, he flailed his arms, refused to turn onto his stomach, would not place his arms behind his back and withheld his name, the report said.
