Larry R. Shannon Sr.

Larry R. Shannon Sr., 67, of Elyria, and formerly of Johnstown, Pa., passed away suddenly, along with his wife, Karen E. Shannon on Monday, November 5, 2007, as the result of an automobile accident in Jenners Township, Pa.

He was born March 11, 1940, in Johnstown, Pa., and moved to Ohio in 1959.

Larry retired as a quality inspector from Ford Motor Company of Lorain in 1998 with 30 years of service. Later in life, he graduated from Lorain County Community College in Elyria receiving a bachelor’s degree.

He was a member of the Ely Masonic Lodge 424 in Vermilion, as a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. He also was a member of UAW Local 425 in Lorain.

He enjoyed reading, puzzles, time spent with family and traveling. He was also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. This past summer, he and Karen traveled to Ireland, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his six children; son, Larry R. Shannon Jr. (wife, Rose) of Elyria; daughter, Erin Hall (husband, Rick) of Lorain; daughter, Trisha Kinsman of Comstock Park, Mich.; son, Michael Shannon of Killeen, Texas; daughter, Kathy Canalos ( husband, David) of Sandusky; daughter, Tammy McKinney (husband, Daniel) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Horner and Olive Jones, both of Johnstown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen E. Shannon (nee Cole); son-in-law, Michael Kinsman; sister, Jo-Ann Henry; two brothers, Ralph and Charles Shannon; and his parents, Charles W. and Ethel Shannon (nee Hill).

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2007, at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second St., Elyria. Ely Lodge 424 will perform a Masonic service 7 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2007at the funeral home.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007, at the funeral home. Barbara Habecker will serve as celebrant.
