Lorain police seek leads in station heist

LORAIN – Police want help identifying a man and woman who allegedly locked a gas station attendant in a restroom while they stole cigarettes and money.

Surveillance footage released Friday shows the suspects approaching the register at Shell Oil, 6432 Middle Ridge Road.

The footage also shows one of the suspects – someone wearing a hooded sweatshirt – ducking behind the counter when the 70-year-old clerk is lured away.

Lorain police said the clerk left her post after the female suspect, whom she said appeared to be crying, asked the cashier to clean up a mess in the gas station`s restroom.

When the clerk went into the bathroom, she was barricaded inside while the suspects took $253.80 from the register, a carton of cigarettes and two single packs of cigarettes, police said.

The pair fled south on Middle Ridge Road in a white, older-model car, the report said.
