Teen who broke into judge’s house sentenced

ELYRIA – A 16-year-old boy who broke into county Juvenile Judge David Berta`s home was sentenced Friday to two years in the custody of the Ohio Department of Youth Services by a visiting judge.

The boy, who stole a .38-Special revolver, three iPods, digital cameras, memory cards and 80 cigars from Berta`s Lorain home, had pleaded guilty to burglary and weapons charges in connection with the thefts from Berta and other break-ins.

The judge`s wife returned from lunch in August to find that their house had been broken into. The house had been searched and the burglar used the bathroom while there – without flushing.

Police arrested the boy at Lorain Admiral King High School a few weeks later. Among the property that was recovered was one of Berta`s cameras, which included a video of the boy and another male standing over the judge`s stolen property.
