Gunman robs Elyria Township sandwich shop

A sandwich shop robbed at gunpoint Tuesday was hit again at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, just before closing time.

Sheriff`s deputies said a lighter-skinned black man wearing a black sweatshirt and hat walked into Subway, 42851 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township, and demanded money.

The man shoved a gun in the faces of the teenage girls working at the time and then fled south on foot, according to the girls` parents.

Sheriff`s Sgt. Tim Gallagher said he doesn`t think the robber was the person responsible for eight other robberies that have occurred in the past two weeks.

But Elyria police Lt. Andy Eichenlaub said the description of the man who robbed the Subway matches the description of a man who tried to rob Sally Beauty Supply in Elyria earlier Thursday.

Eichenlaub said the man walked into the store at 1583 West River Road – in the shopping plaza across the street from Midway Mall – and pretended to have a gun in his pocket, police said.

“She (the clerk) looked at him and said she wasn`t going to do this today,” he said.

The man left the area in a gray four-door car, Eichenlaub said.
