The holiday season kicks off this weekend in Vermilion.
The annual visit by Bob the Belgian horse and the rest of the Belgian horse team will take place at 1 p.m. and last until 4 p.m. Friday as they pull a trolley into Vermilion`s downtown area along Liberty Avenue.
Local merchants have prepared for the event by dressing their shops with holiday decorations and window scenes.
The horses also will be pulling the trolley from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Santa will be arriving by ice breaker on the Vermilion River at 11 a.m. Saturday at Exchange Place Park, located at the corners of U.S. Route 6 and state Route 60 in Vermilion.
Mrs. Claus will join her jolly old hubby to greet children and hearing all about their Christmas list wishes inside his house at the park beginning at 11:15 a.m.
Children are encouraged to bring along a homemade, weather-resistant ornament to Santa in his house, or to bring one at 7 p.m. to the “Gazebo Tree,” where Santa will begin caroling with those in attendance.
Riddle Funeral home will be sharing its eighth annual “Tree of Remembrance” with the community at 1 p.m. Dec. 2 in the gazebo in Victory Park, on Main and Ohio streets.
The tree ceremony allows families to honor loved ones in a special tree decorating ceremony. Those who wish to participate are asked to bring along a weather-resistant ornament.
