Bus fare to rise by 15 cents

ELYRIA – Using public transportation to get around the county is going to be a bit more expensive next year.

Beginning Jan. 1, nearly all ticket prices on Lorain County Transit will increase, with the cost of a full fare rising 15 cents to $1.90.

Only the cost for Oberlin College students to hitch a ride to the Cleveland Hopkins Airport will remain the same at $4.

County commissioners approved the rate increases last year as part of a three-year plan to cover escalating operations costs.

Full fares rose by 15 cents earlier this year.

“We hadn`t raised our rates for 10 years, but because of the cost of running services, we found a need to increase rates,” said Pamela Novak, interim director for Lorain County Transit.

Novak said she couldn`t guarantee that rates would not rise again after next year.
