Avon police officer injured in early morning crash

While responding to a one car crash around 4:45 a.m. Friday on I-90 in Avon, another vehicle traveling east on I-90 lost control due to the slick road conditions, struck an Avon police cruiser and a tow truck from Hall’s towing that was clearing the initial crash.
An Avon police officer was investigating the original crash and was outside of his vehicle when the second crash occurred. The officer received non-life threating injuries and was transported to the Avon Emergency Care Center.
The driver of the second vehicle, Christopher M. Konowal, 24, Lorain, was transported to St. John Westshore Hospital. He was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control.
The eastbound lanes of I-90 were closed for about one hour as a result of the crashes.
