Walter C. Swaney, 86, of Elyria, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
Mr. Swaney was born May 31, 1921 in Oliphant Furnace, Pennsylvania and made his home in Elyria since 1953. He served with the United States Navy during WWII where he received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation with 1 star, and the Asiatic Pacific with 4 stars.
He was employed as a machine operator at the Chevy Parma Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Swaney was a life member of the VFW Post 1079.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy St. Peter of Elyria; a daughter in law, Christina Swaney of Lorain; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Ronald Swaney of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; and one sister, Gladys Gaydosh of Cleveland.
Mr. Swaney was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel M. (Glover) Swaney in 1999; a son, Walter D. Swaney, Jr. in 2006; two brothers, Lorenzo and Edward; two sisters, Anna Margaret and Marlene; and his parents, Percy and Pearl (nee Ramsey) Swaney.
Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Sunday, November 25, 2007, from 5 to 8 P.M. Funeral Services will be Monday, November 26, 2007, at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Reverend Beth McKee, Chaplain of the Wesleyan Village, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, with full military honors provided by the VFW Post 1079.
