Deputy’s cruiser damaged in accident

ELYRIA TWP. – A sheriff`s deputy was taken to the hospital early Thursday after a crash on Russia Road.
Deputy Joseph Greiner, 36, was driving north near West Ridge Road when a red 2003 Ford Windstar rolled into the intersection and hit his cruiser.

The driver, Londa J. Adkins, 52, of Oberlin, was charged with not obeying flashing traffic signals.

Sheriff`s Capt. Richard Resendez said Adkins stopped at a blinking red light, then pulled out in front of Greiner.

“She just didn`t see him,” he said.

The cruiser was shoved off the right side of the road and onto a lawn, while the van spun into a field, according to dispatcher Kevin Koney of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Greiner was taken to EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria, and Adkins was taken to Allen Community Hospital in Oberlin.

Both were treated and released.

Resendez said the sheriff`s cruiser was badly damaged and may have to be replaced.
