Intruders pose as police officers
LORAIN – Two men who falsely identified themselves as police took a box Saturday morning from a Henderson Drive business, according to a Lorain police report.
An employee said at 8:50 a.m. a short man and a tall man – both wearing stocking caps with “POLICE” written across the front – knocked on the door at Nu-Stitch Upholstery, the report said. One had a police badge on his chest.
Both men became excited when they saw a U-Haul box that had just been delivered by UPS, pointed at the box and threatened the employee, saying he could go to jail for 17 years because of the box, the report said.
The men left the area in a 2000 Ford four-door registered to a woman in Cleveland, the report said.
Man allegedly tries to kill girlfriend
LORAIN – A man who allegedly tried to kill his ex-girlfriend with a hammer Thursday was found at an Elyria gas station after a search, according to a Lorain police report.
Keeon Green, 25, of Elyria, was charged with domestic violence, attempted felonious assault and driving under suspension.
He was taken to the county jail.
Officers were called about 7 p.m. to the 2100 block of Lorain Drive, where Cara Hisle, 21, of Lorain, told police that Green tried to hit her with the hammer and threatened to kill her after a dispute over child support.
A neighbor helped her get away, and Green raced away in a white Chevy Monte Carlo, the report said.
Elyria police found Green at a gas station at 10:55 p.m. The hammer was found in a field near Hisle`s house in Lorain.
Officers also discovered that Green`s driving record showed 21 driving suspensions, the report said.
A wrongful entrustment warrant was issued for the owner of the car, Gabrielle Norfus, 24, of Elyria.
Man robs gas station clerk at gunpoint
LORAIN – A man with a handgun made off Thursday with a little less than $100 from a Clark gas station on Grove Avenue, according to a Lorain police report.
The man walked into the station about 9:40 p.m. and started yelling at the clerk, telling him to put his hands up and open the register. The clerk handed him a $20 bill, but the man demanded more, the report said.
The clerk told police the robber ran toward the nearby Rite Aid. Officers searched for him at Darmos CafÃ© and Crystal Rock, but witnesses said the man ran from the bars before police arrived.
Mothers` fight gets physical at school
LORAIN – Two mothers duked it out at 9:29 a.m. Thursday in front of Palm Elementary School on East 34th Street after their sons were in a pushing match, according to a Lorain police report.
Pamalla Hall, 40, and Tina Cobb, 35, both of Lorain, were charged with assault.
A teacher who saw the fight said the women swore at each other in front of students and ended up fighting on the ground, the report said.
Hall and Cobb were banned from Lorain Schools property until further notice.
Lorain man arrested on rape, other charges
LORAIN – Police broke down a door early Friday to rescue a woman screaming for help, according to a Lorain police report.
Nelson Fuentes, 23, of Lorain, was charged with domestic violence, rape, disrupting public service, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
Officers rushed into a house on West 20th Street and found Fuentes standing over a 22-year-old woman, the report said.
The woman told police that Fuentes pushed her when she tried to leave the house, took her phone so she couldn`t call for help, threw her to the ground and held her down while he raped her.
The report said the man was allegedly trying to rape the woman again when police kicked down the door.
Fuentes was taken to the county jail on $500,000 bond.
Woman escapes being set on fire
LORAIN – A woman was able to escape Friday after her boyfriend tried to light her on fire, according to a Lorain police report.
Leon Boyd, 31, of Lorain, was charged with aggravated arson, domestic violence and felonious assault and was taken to the county jail.
Amanda Schaser, 27, of Lorain, said Boyd accused her of calling another man. Then he sprayed her with lighter fluid and tried to set fire to her clothes, the report said.
When they would not light, he squirted more lighter fluid in her face and on her shirt and yelled, “I`m gonna light you on fire,” the report said.
He dragged her down a flight of stairs by her hair, but Schaser was able to break free and run, she told police.
Homeless man shot while leaving bar
LORAIN – A homeless man was shot in the arm early Saturday after leaving a bar, according to a Lorain police report.
Fletcher Windham, 25, of Lorain, was shot in the left wrist and was taken to CHP Regional Medical Center.
He told police he was standing at the corner of West 25th Street and Lexington Avenue when he heard a pop and felt a pain in his arm.
Windham said he didn`t see the shooter. Officers found the bullet casing but no blood on the sidewalk, the report said.
There were also no holes in Windham`s heavy winter coat.
