Ned spent his last seven years in Beaufort, near his son, Kim. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and helping others. Ned graduated from Vermilion High School and Oberlin Business School. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, stationed in Charleston, South Carolina.
Ned was the proud owner of Ned`s Shoe Store in Vermilion.Â In Elyria, Ned ownedÂ a Motorists Mutual Insurance Agency for 25 years and Ned`s Clark Station on Bridge Street.Â He was also employed as a correctional officer at Grafton Prison, in Grafton, Ohio.
He and his wife were foster parents to many children in Vermilion.Â He also volunteered his services to the American Cancer Society, training fellow colon cancer survivors. Ned Hodgson never met a stranger!Â He will be missed by all who had the pleasure and the honor to know him, love him, and be loved by him.
He is survived by brothers, Gayle Hodgson, Blair Hodgson; and a sister, Phyllis Hillis; his two sons; Kim (Julie) Hodgson of Fripp Island, South Carolina, Kris (Barb) Hodgson of Elyria; and a daughter, Susan Groth, of Summerlin, Nevada; his nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Ned was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie (nee Barnes); a son, Terry; and parents, Chester and Marie (nee Williams) Hodgson.
