Former Lorain teacher loses release bid again

ELYRIA — With less than a year to go before he’s released from prison, a former Lorain Admiral King High School teacher convicted of having sexual relations with two of his students doesn’t want to spend any longer than he has to behind bars.

But Vinson Shipley can’t seem to convince Visiting Judge Judith Cross to let him out early.
Cross shot down Shipley’s fourth request for early release without explanation in a judgment entry filed Tuesday in county Common Pleas Court.

Shipley, 58, is set to be released in August 2008. He is serving a six-year prison sentence after being convicted of using his position to take advantage of two students — one in 1996 and 1997 and another in 2002.
Shipley’s attorneys contend he’s served enough time and has been a model prisoner, while prosecutors argue that Shipley remains a dangerous sex offender who could take advantage of other young girls.
