Store owner recognizes robbery suspect

LORAIN — A convenience store owner had to do a double-take Monday night as his West 23rd Street business was being robbed.
Midway through the hold-up, Rudolph Harsar, 30, recognized the suspect as the man who robbed him two months ago, according to a Lorain police report. Harsar said he was closing just before 8 p.m. when a man knocked on the door and called him by his nickname, Rudy. He couldn’t see the man’s face and decided to let him in, the report said.

The man walked straight to the store’s beer cooler with his head down, grabbed a 24-ounce Labatt Ice and returned to the counter and demanded money, Harsar told police. The robber was holding a metal object, but the report said Harsar couldn’t tell whether it was a knife or gun.

The man took $120 and yanked the phone cord from the wall, police said. He then ran off, leaving the beer behind, police said.
