A Lorain man has been charged with aggravated murder following the Thursday night shooting death of his estranged wife’s lover.

Frank Honaker, 50, turned himself in at the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office roughly an hour after entering his wife’s West Erie Avenue apartment around 7:30 p.m. and shooting her lover, according to Lorain police.

Christopher Betts, 37, of Columbia Township died from a gunshot wound at 8:20 p.m. at CHP Regional Medical Center, according to county Coroner Paul Matus.  

Lorain police Sgt. Mark Carpentiere said Honaker and his wife were separated at the time, and he was attempting to drop off their children, ages 10 and 15, at the apartment when he began arguing with Betts which led to the shooting.

Honaker was arraigned Friday morning in Lorain Municipal Court, and is being held on a $1 million bond at the county jail.

An autopsy for Betts is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. today.
