GRAFTON — The Lorain Correctional Institution’s work with two Northeast Ohio schools has earned it the Gold Star award, the highest honor given by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
Warden Bennie D. Kelly and staff were honored for their collaborative commitment with Shaw High School of East Cleveland and the Lorain County Joint Vocational School in “Building Our Future,” a career development program.
The program is designed to kindle a desire for future criminal justice students to enter the field of corrections as a career alternative.
Over the course of four consecutive weeks, LCI employees visited the schools to share information about various positions in the prison system. The final component of the program concluded with the students spending the day at LCI.
