PENFIELD TWP. —  A hunter was found dead of a heart attack early Sunday after getting separated from two other hunters Saturday on the last day of deer season, Lorain County Coroner Paul Matus said.

Don Devite, 55, of Parma, was found face down and had apparently collapsed before much snow fell Saturday, Matus said.

Devite and two other men began hunting about 11 a.m., Matus said.

Relatives of the man who was supposed to be hunting with her husband went with him instead, Don Devite’s wife, Carol, said. She said they apparently didn’t have cell phones.

Devite was found near 42950 Jones Road about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Matus.

An autopsy showed he died of a massive heart attack and had suffered an earlier heart attack some time in the past, Matus said.

Authorities began searching for Devite aabout 11 p.m. Saturday. Deer hunting had closed at dusk.

She said he has two children aged 25 and 18 from an earlier marriage and they have a 6-year-old child together. Carol Devite said their blended family also included her six children aged 25 to 19.

“He was patient, fun-loving and open,” she said.
