Elyria man indicted for alleged rape at knife point

ELYRIA — An Elyria man who police say raped a woman at knife point last month has been indicted.

David Tarrant, 24, is charged with kidnapping, rape and felonious assault for the Nov. 26 attack on the 40-year-old woman.

Police twice went to Tarrant’s East Avenue apartment during the alleged rape, but the first time could not locate the suspicious sounds reported by neighbors. They returned about 15 minutes later after neighbors reported a woman screaming.

Once officers convinced Tarrant to open the door, they found the woman, who had a cut over her right eyebrow, according to reports. The woman told officer she had been visiting someone else in the apartment building and had gone willingly to Tarrant’s apartment. Once inside, he allegedly threatened her with a steak knife and forced her to perform sex acts.
