The son of a Wellington pastor pleaded not guilty this morning in county Common Pleas Court to charges that he fatally shot his mother and critically wounded his father.

Daniel Petric, 16, is charged with aggravated murder, murder, attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence, charges that could send him to prison for the rest of his life if convicted.

He appeared via video arraignment from the county jail.

Daniel is accused of shooting his mom, 43-year-old Sue Petric and dad, 45-year-old Mark Petric, on Oct. 20 as they sat down to watch a baseball game at their Brighton Township home. His sister, 21-year-old Heidi Archer and her husband discovered the shootings when they came over to watch the game.

Mark Petric, a pastor at New Life Assembly of God, attended the hearing with Heidi Archer and his wife’s father, Michael Broeckel. Mark Petric was released last month from MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland after spending 27 days there.

Daniel is being held in a juvenile wing of the county jail on a $1 million bond.
