Police arrest sitter on the lam

SHEFFIELD LAKE — An anonymous tip Friday led police to the hideout of a sex offender wanted in Westlake for showing pornography to young children.

Dennis Buck, 38, was found at 12:19 a.m. at an apartment building on the 600 block of Lake Breeze Road, Sheffield Lake police Detective Jarod Green said.

There were no children in the apartment with Buck, who was previously convicted of molesting a 14-year-old relative, Green said.

He did not enter a plea Friday when he appeared in Rocky River Municipal Court to two felony counts of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and his bond was set at $25,000.

Buck had been on the lam since mid-December, when Westlake police linked him to a possibly abusive situation at his girlfriend’s home.

School officials worried when several of his girlfriend’s children showed up at school in dirty clothes and with poor hygiene, Westlake police Capt. Guy Turner said.

Police checked their house and found their mother, Sharon Sparks, 32, asleep and a drunken Buck watching her children, ages 2, 6, 8 and 11.

Buck was charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication and released a few hours later.

Sparks was charged with three counts of child endangering and a felony count of obstructing official business.

Cuyahoga County Children Services removed the kids from the house on Dec. 5, and Buck was warned not to go back there, Turner said.

Buck was later seen sneaking back in the house, but Sparks wouldn’t let police in, Turner said.

During the investigation that followed, one of the children told police that Buck showed them dirty magazines and movies.

Buck is also wanted by state corrections officials for a parole violation linked to the same case.
