The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Edith Jane Mekoleske, 84, of Wellington, died Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Allen Medical Center in Oberlin.
She was born on May 22, 1923 in Rochester to the late Samuel and Maggie Shick. Edith had lived in the Penfield area since the 1940′s.
Edith was a member of the Penfield Community Church and she was an avid game player.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Charles; and three sons, Charles (Pennie) Mekoleske of Grafton, Otis (Barb) Mekoleske of Wooster, and David Mekoleske of Wellington. She is also survived by five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 10 A.M. until 12 P.M. on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Funeral Services will begin at 12 P.M. with Pastor Chris Reutepohler officiating. Burial will follow at Penfield Cemetery.
